Interesting Survey

I found this on EDSBS and thought I should share my answers here as well. Go on over and give them a response.

1. Education. List the region of the country you were born in, what universities you attended and at least one other you would have attended if your alma mater didn’t exist.

Born in Cincy. Grew up in Houston TX, Richmond VA, and Indianapolis. Went to University of Memphis and now attend Strayer University Online. Graduate with my BSA next march. I always dreamed of going to ND but my GPA in High School was so so. I got accepted into Purdue but my parents moved to Memphis so I went there.

2. Sports Affiliations. List your top 10 favorite teams in all of sports in descending order. For instance, your alma mater’s football team may be number 1, but perhaps there is a professional team that squeezes in before you get to your alma mater’s lacrosse team.

1. University of Notre Dame Football
2. Tennessee Titans
3. University of Memphis Football
4. Carmel IN High School Football
5. Cincinnati Reds
6. Memphis Redbirds(AAA Baseball)
7. SEMO Cross Country (My brother was on the team)
8. University of Memphis Basketball
9. Memphis Grizzlies

3. Movies. List the movie you’ve watched the most, your favorite sports related movie, the movie you secretly love but don’t like to admit it (possibly a chick flick or b film), and the movie you were (or still are) most looking forward to from this summer’s season.

Most: Tombstone
Favorite Sports: Rudy
Secret: Shadowlands(with Anthony Hopkins)
Looking forward to: XMEN 3

4. Music. List your favorite band from middle school, high school, college and today. Also, as with the movies, include the song you secretly love but don’t like to admit. If Nickleback is involved in any of these responses, please give a detailed explanation as to why, god, why.

Middle: Guns N Roses First music that was mine and not my parents
High: Garth Brooks(No one else was listening to country. I played it loud and proud to piss everyone off. I can hardly stand him now.)
College: Metallica
Today: Johnny Cash
Song I’m Ashamed of: Bitch – Meredith Brooks(I can’t even begin to explain this)

5. Books. Favorite book you’ve finished, worst book you’ve finished and the book you really should read but haven’t gotten around to it.

Worst: The Koran (PoliSci class at Univ. of Memphis)

Just wondered what was so wrong with the koran. Was it boring? P.S boaroa from dogbonesbackyard asked me some fairly interesting questions about the state of English sport. I wrote a MASSIVE post in response. As a fellow sportsfan your comments would be welcome. Pippa. P.S That Bitch song tends to get in your head and I still love guns n roses, oh for a proper reunion. They would show people what real rock n roll is all about. Glad to hear axl is still crazy and turning up hotel rooms (lol).

On the Koran, I disagree with it wholeheartedly. Not to be short but it doesn't get more plain than that.

GNR oozed rock and roll. They really were rock and roll. I had some posts on GNR in the archives that you might want to check out.

Thanx for the comments on my blog.Glad you enjoyed it, I know I enjoyed writing it. The nearest thing to G N R? Velvet revolver. Atleast according to their performance on live 8 in London last summer. They were AWESOME. Closest thing I suspect I will ever get to seeing the "real" G N R performing live.

Middle States Now Under Scrutiny

Diploma mills have long been criticized for their lack of accreditation, but now a regional accrediting association has itself come under scrutiny.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education, headquartered in Philadelphia, nominally accredits colleges and universities located in Washington, D. C. and in Middle Atlantic States north to New York.

Problems with Middle States began in 1981, when it accredited a small, for-profit business college in Washington, D. C. That college subsequently relocated to Arlington, Virginia, and quickly opened branch campuses throughout the southeastern states, including Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. The institution renamed itself a university, and downgraded its original Washington, D. C. location to merely one of its 43 branch campuses.

The states in which the university expanded, however, are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), not by Middle Atlantic. Nevertheless, the original 1981 accreditation of a small business college has been stretched like a rubber band to cover 27,000 online and on-campus students in 10 states.

Some educators have argued that SACS would never accredit this new university because of the following:

• The school has no library to speak of. It maintains various “Learning Resource Centers” that collectively have 27,000 volumes or one book for each of the estimated 27,000 students who study online or at satellite campuses. Indiana University’s library system, in contrast, has 8.2 million volumes.
• Quizzes and exams are online, open-book and unproctored. Students routinely enlist others to help them at exam time.
• There is pressure on instructors to give high grades and thereby maintain full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment numbers. Instructors who have the temerity to give grades of C or D are called in for counseling.
• Students never meet or have direct contact with instructors.
• The school has an open-enrollment policy which encourages unqualified or marginally qualified applicants. Nevertheless, approximately one-third of all students graduate with “honors.”

When asked about these factors, a spokesman for Middle States claimed the institution in question was still located in Washington, D. C. and therefore under its purview. In fact, however, the institution has registered with the Virginia Corporation Commission as being located in Arlington, Virginia. Further, the institution’s main phone numbers are in area code 703, which is Virginia. Middle States had no further comment.
